My Favorite Engagement Session Locations around the Triad

One of my favorite aspects of living in the Triad area is the abundance of fantastic engagement session locations! Whether you’re an avid hiker, outdoorsy couple or are looking for more of an urban chic vibe, there is the perfect location. It is right here in our backyard! I’ve compiled a list of some of my favorite photo session locations around the Triad.

Tanglewood Park

This beautiful park located in Clemmons is perfect for couples that enjoy the outdoors, but don’t necessarily want to hike through the mountains. Tanglewood Park has plenty of pristine photo spots across its 1,100 acres. From the scenic trails, fields of wildflowers, and rustic barns. From its large lake to brick pathways, there is something for everyone. I love starting engagement sessions on the lawn of the Manor House and seeing where else we end up on the grounds. Plus, if you want to make a day of it you can schedule a guided trail ride, take your dog to the dog park, or setup to play their Softgolf™ course! There is so much to do and see, which always makes for a fun engagement session.

Innovation Quarter – Bailey Power Plant Park

Although the Innovation Quarter is aimed toward business owners and professionals, their setup makes for a very unique session location. Located in the old Tobacco district of Downtown Winston-Salem, this is great for couples that are looking for a slightly edgier urban vibe. With the concrete walls and exposed lighting in the main, outdoor spaces, this area offers an industrial vibe worth checking out. You can grab an authentic Italian pizza from Cugino Forno Neapolitan Pizza, a cold beer from Incendiary Brewery at The Coalpit, or a coffee from DeBeen Espresso after your session. Or better yet let’s make it part of your session!

Downtown Winston Salem

There is something extra special about Downtown Winston-Salem from its rich history and well-preserved buildings to its beautiful landscaping, friendly people, and all of the different businesses and unique restaurants galore. There are so many different spots that make for pretty backgrounds for engagement photos. I personally love the rooftop garages at sunset giving you a beautiful view of the city. We can also walk along 4th Street, stopping in Camino Bakery for a few intimate shots while enjoying a coffee and delicious pastry. Grab a slice from Mellow Mushroom under the cityscape or end up at The Katharine Brasserie & Bar to enjoy a crafted cocktail and French-inspired appetizer alongside the swanky 1920’s decor. If you’re looking for a classy, upscale vibe, with an industrial feel then this may be a great choice for you!

Greensboro Arboretum

If you’re looking for a romantic and sweet location, then Greensboro Arboretum is it! With the winding garden paths and breathtaking floral landscaping, this is perfect for couples looking for romance and whimsy in their photos in the Greensboro area. Almost a Secret Garden feel, there’s plenty of spots within the gardens that offer an intimate setting for your photo session. With a bounty of pergolas, sculptures, gazebos, and benches, this is a wonderful choice to kick back, relax, and enjoy nature. We just featured an engagement session here. You can read all about it here.

Reynolda Gardens

Reynolda Gardens has everything you could want for an engagement session! From the beautiful, manicured gardens to brick pathways and gorgeous greenhouse, there are so many great spots for your photos. We’ll walk through the area and capture your images along the cherry blossoms and rose gardens. The Reynolda House is a perfect backdrop adding to your photos, history and charm. In front of the house is a sprawling field that seems to go on for a mile finally ending up at a wild field of tall grasses and wildflowers. Looking for a sweet treat after? Stop by Dough-Joe’s for some of the best doughnuts in the area or if you’re looking for an after-session meal, enjoy the outdoor seating under the lights at Village Tavern. A night cap is a must at the newly-opened Theodore’s!

Summerfield Farms

This location is wildly underrated and I love it! With over 600 acres this working farm and venue has been in business since 2012 making for an adventurous session for couples. With plenty of lovely photo opportunities, we can enjoy the grassy fields, a lake, The Barn, and the Pole Barn as possible options. Rustic charm all day long! Plus, I love getting the opportunity to support this local farm and always like to stop by The Market for some goodies to take home.

Blue Ridge Mountains

If you are looking to have a lot of fun and have your images amongst the Blue Ridge Mountain line, then this location is definitely calling your name! There are several options for trails and hikes to get to the best picturesque spots in the area. I like to recommend packing a change of shoes, so that the hiking are done comfortably and then you can change into your booties or heels once we hit the peak. If you’re up for bringing a picnic, then that can be a super idea to add some props and cute images to your photoshoot. I have a few favorite spots along the Blue Ridge Parkway that are a must-see for photo sessions!
